The mid-term review meeting of the Hungarian tied aid loan project on food chain safety in Laos took place on 12-13 June, 2018 in Vientiane with the participation of the project contractor company Vitafort Agro Asia, EXIM Bank, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry including experts from the Department of Livestock and Fisheries and the Embassy of Hungary in Bangkok.

Participants visited some of the model farms established in the framework of the project, such as the Nongteng Feed Mill and the Namhoum Fish Farm.

The mid-term review is an important milestone of the project which comprises the establishment of the legal and institutional background of the food chain safety system based on Hungarian example, the establishment of the laboratory network and diagnostic capacity, and model farms to test the system in practice. Training of managers, technicians and workers in the field of food production, processing and marketing is of high priority for the rest of the project period. Lao students are also encouraged to apply to pursue veterinary and agricultural studies at Hungarian universities with the support of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme.
