H.E. Mrs. Bilaibhan Sampatasiri, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs received, on 5 February, H.E. Dr. Peter Jakab, Ambassador of Hungary. The Chairperson of the City Planning Committee, the Vice-President of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and a number of MPs were also present at the meeting. Mrs. Bilaibhan Sampatasiri briefed the Hungarian diplomat on the activity of the interim Thai legislative body since its formation in August 2014, its participation in the adoption of bills, including the Forests Act, which protects the environment and national parks in Thailand and its role in the drafting of the new Constitution. The Thai Parliament has also ratified several international agreements which contribute to the country’s better connectivity to its neighbors and enhance the role of Thailand as a distribution hub in the region. The Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, as well as the majority of parliamentary officials who attended the meeting, recalled their positive impressions of visiting Hungary in the past. Mrs. Sampatasiri thanked the Hungarian Ambassador for informing her about the formation of the Hungary-Thailand Friendship Group in the Hungarian Parliament and informed him on the plan to create a Thai-Hungarian Friendship Group in the Thai Parliament soon.
