The Hungarian-Thai Joint Economic Committee met in Budapest on 10-11 September. The event was hosted by the co-chair of the committee, Levente Magyar, Minister of State for Economic Diplomacy at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Mr. Magyar stressed that water management is of key importance among the many areas of cooperation outlined at the meeting. Since Thailand has been hit by floods and droughts several times over the past years, the country has recently embarked on the development of a nationwide water management system. As discussed at the meeting, Hungarian experts could also participate in this project, given Hungary’s wide-ranging experience and expertise in this area.

The head of the Thai delegation, Norachit Sinhaseni, Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed Thailand’s appreciation for Hungary’s intense activity with regard to further developing bilateral economic relations. He pointed out that over the past two years, bilateral trade has jumped from USD 300 million to USD 672 million and, due primarily to a dynamic increase in Hungarian exports, is continuously on the rise. However, there are many further opportunities to explore in our economic, trade and investment relations, he added. In addition to water management and agriculture, he mentioned health care and tourism as key areas of cooperation.
