On the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the construction of That Luang (the Great Stupa), the national symbol of Laos, Vientiane capital organized the That Luang Festival and Trade Fair from 7th to 14th November 2016 at Lao International Trade Exhibition and Convention Center. Budapest, as Vientiane's sister city, was also invited to exhibit and promote Hungary at the expo. The Embassy of Hungary and the Hungarian National Trading House in Vientiane cooperated to establish the Hungarian pavilion, thus making Hungary the only non-Asian country represented at the grand exhibition. The Hungarian pavilion was visited by H.E. the Prime Minister and several Ministers of the Lao PDR, the Governor of Vientiane as well as the mayors of ASEAN capital cities participating at the event.
