On 26 November Ambassador Szilveszter Bus visited Mr. Sakoltee Phattiyakul, Deputy Governor of Bangkok in his office. Budapest and Bangkok have been sister cities since 1997. Budapest is one of the two European capitals with which Bangkok has such agreement.

Hungary will host World Robot Olympiad student competition world finals in 2019

On 18th of November Hungary took over the flag from Thailand to organize World Robot Olympiad finals in 2019. Hungary will be the first European country to the finals of one of the most prestigious student competitions in the world. During the closing ceremony of World Robot Olympiad 2018 in Chiang Mai, Mr Szilveszter Bus, Ambassador of Hungary, congratulated Thailand for the successful organization of the event which attracted 486 student teams from 63 countries. He emphasized the importance of an increased cooperation between Europe and Asia’s innovation hubs, Hungary’s achievements in innovation and its dedication to be a research hub in Central Europe.

Innovation - The Way for Thailand and Hungary

Mirroring his priorities, Ambassador Szilveszter Bus visited the National Innovation Agency of Thailand and met with its managing director, Dr. Pun-Arj Chairatana and his colleagues. The meeting served as a great opportunity to learn more about NIA’s work and goals and explore potential areas of cooperation in the area of innovation. Hungary is a country of innovation potential. The 2018 edition of WIPO’s Global Innovation Index evaluated Hungary as the 8th nation globally for Innovation Efficiency. Hungary spends 1.3 % of its GDP on research and development and the target for 2020 is 1.8%.

After yet another successful bilateral ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Parties signed the Extradition Tretary between Hungary and the Kingdom of Thailand on 26 September, 2018. On behalf of the Government of Hungary, H.E. Mr. Péter Szijjártó Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and on behalf of the Thai Party H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs signed the international agreement.
